Field Excavator Operator

Position Summary:

The purpose of the job is to operate heavy equipment safely, productively and efficiently. This job primarily requires operating specialized helical pier installation equipment that is based on tracked excavator units. 

 

 

Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:

  • Proficiently operate any or all of our core equipment, which includes Excavators, Loaders, Tele-Handlers and skid steer equipment.
  • Comply with the Operations & Maintenance program for our core Equipment.
  • Perform a daily heavy equipment walk-around inspection and preventive maintenance responsibilities.
  • Perform job responsibilities safely in a busy and sometimes congested worksite while maintaining good communication with crew and never compromising on quality of work.
  • Understand the value of teamwork, professionalism and that you are the face of the company to the client.
  • Operate equipment productively for 12+ hours per day, year-round in all types of weather and ground conditions.
  • Perform tasks that have to do with helical pier installation as assigned or directed by the Field Supervisor or Project Manager. In the event of conflicting direction, please inform both parties.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent such as but not limited to general housekeeping of machine, general lubrication of applicable component and being a positive role model to the crew.
  • This position may require occasional travel within the continental United States as well as Canada.
  • Other assigned work as required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • HPS relies on the Excavator Operator to always maintain a safe work area amongst its crew and therefore expects you to shut the project down and contact your Supervisor should the area become unsafe. 

 

Special Requirements of the Position:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, prints/drawings, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems that may occur on any worksite.
  • A good mechanical aptitude as well as a general understanding of hydraulics would be an asset.
  • Construction / Operator experience required;
  • Current TWIC card
  • Basic Plus, OSHA 10 an asset

  

 Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; and one to two years related experience and/or field training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Or - one year certificate from College or Technical School; and six months related experience and/or field training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must pass a 50lb physical fitness test and Drug & Alcohol test
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must possess a mode of transportation to and from worksites

 

Work Conditions:

  • Must be available and willing to work out of town and outdoors during all seasons of the year.
  • Operate equipment productively for 12+ hours per day, year-round in all types of weather and ground conditions.
